Call to Conference: We are pleased to invite you to the 2010 ASC Region III Conference and Student Competitions to be held for the 7th consecutive year at the Doubletree Guest Suites & Conference Center in Downers Grove, Illinois, October 20-23, 2010 .

The conference will include our regional faculty business meeting and a Program Spotlights on Thursday morning at which two of our schools will provide information about their programs. Faculty papers are scheduled for Thursday afternoon, and professional development sessions on Friday. Details will be announced as events are confirmed. The Conference will conclude Saturday morning with an Awards Breakfast.

Faculty Awards – Please consider nominating a deserving colleague or yourself for one of the ASC Awards. These awards can be very important in the tenure and promotion process. Please submit all award application forms and supporting documents to John R. Schmidt (schmidtj@ferris.edu) by October 15, 2010. An ad hoc selection committee will be convened to review the applications prior to the ASC Regional Business Meeting on October 21, 2010.

Details and Application Forms for these awards are located on the "members only" side of the ASC website. Here are some of the basics regarding these two awards.

National Teaching Award -- The Associated Schools of Construction National Teaching Award is made annually to a faculty member of a four-year ASC member school. This award recognizes the faculty member's contribution to construction education, excellence in teaching, and dedication to the construction profession.

Outstanding Educator Award -- The Associated Schools of Construction Outstanding Educator Award is made annually to a faculty member of a four-year ASC member school. This award recognizes the faculty member's contribution to construction education, excellence in teaching, service to the Associated Schools of Construction and dedication to the construction profession.

Call for Papers:
The Associated Schools of Construction, Great Lakes Region (Region 3) Conference and Student Competition is fast approaching.  The event will once again take place at the DoubleTree Guest Suites in Downers Grove, Illinois, from October 20 to 23, 2010.  Information and registration materials will be posted to an updated website very soon.

The process of paper submittals and presentations was modified to allow a peer review cycle.  Dr. Mohamed El‑Gafy handled the challenge of coordinating this task admirably for the past two years and has agreed to do so again this year.  The region will need peer reviewers for the process.  Please read the following information and reply to Professor El-Gafy accordingly.

1.

Call for Reviewers

The Associated Schools of Construction Region 3 recognizes the value and importance of the peer reviewer in the overall publication process — not only in shaping the individual manuscript, but also in shaping the credibility and reputation of the conference proceeding.

The identification and selection of reviewers who have expertise and interest in the topics appropriate to each manuscript are essential elements in ensuring a timely, productive peer review process. Generally, reviewers are asked to review one or two manuscripts and to return their comments within one week.  In an effort to facilitate the selection of appropriate peer reviewers for the ASC Region 3 conference proceeding, we ask that you take a moment to send your contact information to Dr. Mohamed El-Gafy at elgafy@msu.edu by September 17, 2010.

Call for Papers

Given the time period and depth of review for these submittals, the pre-submission of abstracts will not be necessary.  Manuscripts are to be submitted in Microsoft Word format to elgafy@msu.edu. Authors are encouraged to use the ASC Style Guide in preparing papers in preparation for an ultimate submittal to the International Proceedings.  The unusually early due dates are in response to the early submittal dates required for submittal of papers to the International Proceedings.  This year, the submittals for the International Proceedings are being accepted between October 1 and November 1.  (Please check with their website for verification of these dates and and for any updates.)  The following timeline for Region 3 papers is an attempt to provide peer feedback before the International Proceedings dates.
