Call for Papers:
The Associated Schools of Construction,
Great Lakes Region (Region 3) Conference and Student Competition is fast
approaching. The event will once again take place at the DoubleTree Guest Suites in Downers Grove, Illinois, from
October 26 to 29, 2011. Information and registration materials will be
posted to an updated website very soon.
The process of
paper submittals and presentations was modified to allow a peer review
cycle. Dr. Mohamed El‑Gafy
handled the challenge of coordinating this task admirably for the past three
years and has agreed to do so again this year. The region will need
peer reviewers for the process. Please read the following information
and reply to Professor El-Gafy accordingly.

Call for Reviewers
|
|
|
The Associated Schools of Construction Region 3 recognizes
the value and importance of the peer reviewer in the overall publication
process — not only in shaping the individual manuscript, but also in shaping
the credibility and reputation of the conference proceeding.
|
|
|
The identification and selection of reviewers who have
expertise and interest in the topics appropriate to each manuscript are
essential elements in ensuring a timely, productive peer review process.
Generally, reviewers are asked to review one or two manuscripts and to return
their comments within one week. In an effort to facilitate the
selection of appropriate peer reviewers for the ASC Region 3 conference
proceeding, we ask that you take a moment to send your contact information to
Dr. Mohamed El-Gafy at elgafy@msu.edu by Friday,
September 23, 2011.

Call to Competition:
This year, 2011, marks a first in Region III history. For this first time, ASC
Region III will host "open" or "national" problems for student competition.
All Student Competitions will be held in conjunction with the
Region III Conference.
NOTE:
Some divisions may be limited due to the historical volume of teams. In an
effort to more efficiently and effectively conduct the competition, a CAP may be
placed on certain divisions. The teams will be included based on first-come
receipt of registration materials. In the event that more teams desire
participation in any single category, redirection to an alternate division will
be suggested.
At
present, the Commercial Division will be capped at 12 teams.
Regional Student Competitions - As in past years,
the three standard problem divisions will be open to all Region III member
institutions:
-
Commercial
Construction (Judge Sponsor: Walsh)
-
Design Build
Construction (Judge Sponsor: McCarthy)
-
Heavy Civil
Construction (Judge Sponsor: Kiewit)
Open Student Competitions - This year we will have
two problem divisions open to all ASC member institutions throughout the world:
Teams are
limited to one per school per competition division. Non-member schools must
join the ASC in order to register to compete.
To Join the ASC
contact Sue Wagner-Renner: sue.asc@gmail.com.
Competition
rules can be viewed on the ASC Region 3 Website as
they are received from the Judge Sponsors.
Team registration forms will be available on the Conference website.
